November Cashback Rewards: 2.8%

This post was inspired by a post over at Free Money Finance called "How You Can Earn Over 2.6% Cash Back by Using a Combination of the American Express Blue Cash and Chase Freedom Cash Visa Credit Cards"

This was my first full month using the Chase Freedom Card. As I discussed in previous blogs... I don't like Chase and I refuse to let them make interest off of me. I pay the balance in full every month and let them pay me cash back.

This month I used a hybrid rewards approach between Chase Freedom and Discover's Get More program to earn 2.8% cash back. (Funny, both of these banks used to Charge me almost 30% interest. Makes the cashback rewards oh so much more satisfying...)

Chase Freedom offers 1% back on every purchase, 3% on the 3 categories where you spend the most. The 15 categories include:

  • Grocery Stores
  • Gas & Convenience Stores
  • Fast Food and Quick Service Restaurants
  • Utilities (Gas and Electric)
  • Drugstores
  • Department Stores
  • Pet Supply Stores/ Vet
  • Phone/Cell Phone Bills
  • Cable/Satellite/Internet
  • Local commuting
  • Gym Membership
  • Movie Theater
  • Movie Rental
  • Dry cleaner
  • Beauty Salon/Spa
Discover's Get More program offers 5% cash back in select categories that change every quarter. They also offer 5-20% on many online purchases. This quarter Get More categories include:
  • Restaurants (all)
  • Movies/ Movie Rentals
My highest bugeted spending categories are Grocery and Gas followed by Utilities and Dining Out. I ONLY use my Discover card for Get More purchases (including my Netflix subscription) and use the Chase for everything else. It worked out well this month! I earned 2.8% cashback on all of the money spent in November. Wow it feels great to make money on purchases rather than pay it :)

Great idea! I am a fan of cash back cards. I will look into the Chase Freedom Cash Visa Credit Card.

I plan to include a link to this article in my Friday Carnival review.
